FUEL SYSTEM
|
I had to remove the factory gas tank because it was in the way of a 4 link rear suspension, caused an exhaust nightmare, and the crappy in-tank fuel pumps kept dying. I replaced it with this 20 gal fuel cell from summit racing. |

The tank has a sump that hangs down from the bottom of the tank. This left me with only two mounting options, either raise it up, or cut a bit hole in my flat bed. I didn't like the big hole, so took option 1. The large yellow pads are actually motor mounts for a Kenworth. It works out that they provide great vibration dampening, if that is actually important. |

This is my answer to the bad in-tank pumps. It is a high flow Holley fuel pump. It is bolted to the bottom of the bed directly under the fuel cell. It is a low pressure pump, but my throttle body injection system works at 13psi, and this sucker makes more than enough. |
ONBOARD AIR SYSTEM.
UTILIZING A YORK ENGINE MOUNTED AC COMPRESSOR.
![]() |
Here is a picture of the York air compressor. For space sake, I mounted it facing backwards between the radiator and the motor.. My York came with a serpentine clutch and threaded male fittings on it. I use some goofy valve cover breather as a filter. To mount it, I just shoved a piece of rubber hose over the suction fitting, and hose clamped it to the York and the filter. The discharge side uses an AC fitting from the auto parts shack. It just has a half inch hose barb coming off of it. |

The red runs directly from the York to an air filter. Right after that is a coalescing filter. It separater oil from the air. These are not absolutely necessary, especially running both, but the York leaks oil, and the second filter has such a fine filtering element that a prefilter is useful, and the oil could be recycled back to the York without much contamination at all. It is hard to pick out, but the bulging fitting between the filters and the Tee is a one way check valve with built in purge valve. It automatically dumps the pressure before it when ever the flow stops. This relieves the compressor from having to startup under load. The next big block is a pressure switch. This one is quite large, but works. It just turns on the clutch when pressure drops bellow 100psi, and turns it off again when the pressure hits 130 psi. My air tanks are on order at the moment, so I have to wait a little bit before they will be installed, but when they are they will just be plumbed directly to the Tee where that quick connect is right now. |
DUAL BATTERY SYSTEM

This is the control unit to the system. It allows you to pick any combination of batteries you would like. It can control the main battery and up to two extras. I was running three batteries, but have I have decided to dump one of the extras. |

This is the solenoid that seperates the two batteries. It is rated for 200 amps continuous duty. |
REAR SHACKLE FLIP
![]() |
I did a shackle flip on the back of the truck. It provides 4" of lift, allowing me to run only 2" blocks under the springs instead of the big 5.5" suckers that I had to use at first. The brackets came from offroad designs. |
REAR BUMPER
![]() |
Basically my rear bumper just sucked, so I had this thing fabbed up. It is made from 8" x 4" rectangular tubing with a .25" wall. The lights are Autozone specials. I bought the cheap one so I wouldn't cry when I smash one. Keep that in mind when you buy any off-road lights. A little later I added a second reciever hitch to the top of the bumper. It holds the tray mounted winch up and out of the way while I drive down the trail. No more sticking the thing into the ground on hills. |

The shackle mounts / bumper mounts are made from a single piece of 3/4" plate. They bolt directly to the frame and run clean through the bumper. |
